Every day we seem to be faced with more and more motivational quotes supposedly to help inspire, build belief and sometimes give us the kick up the backside we need, but do they really work?
In my previous corporate life I used to get lots of “snippets” and quotes particularly in training programmes to help keep me focused and motivated. Looking back though some of these can often be seen a bit cliched and predictable getting wheeled out each time there’s a sales conference or briefing. So do they really help and do they resonate with you to change your behaviour?
Personally, I believe that quotes do work. Sometimes it can be a simple quote from a movie that sticks in your mind a quote from a book or a speech which if recalled at the right time can really it home. I will leave you with my favourite quote from a movie at the end of this blog.
The use of motivational quotes is no longer limited to business now as there are some fabulous products which you see and make you think “That would be perfect for X” or “That is so me” – The right quote or statement can be a really good way of identifying and showing off your personality.
Fitness and weight programme companies really use motivational quotes to keep you on the straight and narrow. Having been a member of slimming world for many years I was often inspired by a note in the post from the consultant just keeping an eye on me and her timing was always critical as to whether I made it to class or not – even when I had been naughty! This experience helped inspire me search out products for Got2Jot and we now stock a brilliant set of motivational postcards based on these experiences. Here is one of my favourites as commitment is all important on a diet journey.
They’ve also been a great idea for my kids sports coaches to use with the teams. Just a little postcard with the right message given at the right time can make a difference to a players motivation.
But there are lots of other products out there which I think use quotes really well and make a great gift idea.
Who thought pencils could look this stylish but this set of gold foil quote pencils from pencil me in are fun and brighten up the desk.

Finally there are prints now available every imaginable quote using lovely fonts and designs some of which you can now download or you can get framed. I particularly like this one from Team Hen who specialise in tasteful hen party gifts and accessories with designs that are modern and quirky, without being overly glitzy or girly.
So for me finding a product that has the right quote for the right person makes it far more personal and will probably be kept longer than your normal gift.
Now you are at the end of this blog here is one of my favourite quotes from my favourite films with definitely my favourite actor! I’d love to hear what your favourite quote from a movie is so drop me a line in the comments box.
Bye for now – Sarah
